Omaha, NE THE LIFT 97th and L Well it’s that time of the year again, the freezing cold rain is coming down and people are forgetting how to drive again. I am pretty sure I saw snow falling out there this morning! With this weather mix I wish there was at least three feet of snow on the ground and I was sitting at the bar of the lodge I am staying at somewhere in the mountains! Unfortunately, I am stuck in Omaha right now and don’t have that luxury. But, I have found a place that is very close! It’s called “The Lift” and it is located on 97th and L (Next to Big John’s). As you walk in the door the wood décor takes you to a ski lodge type atmosphere, which is top off with two very impressive fire places. They have nine flat screen TV’s (From what I counted) which had X Games on a few, a snowboarding video game “I Think, I never got an opportunity to ask about it, but it did look like something you could play” on a few and then their Video Box on the rest! This definitely was one of their great points, as the entire time I was there; they had some thing playing on the overhead that I could bob my head to. Making for a place that you can easily kick back and have a few brews. The Lift has 19 beers on tap! Actually the have 20, but Bud Light is on tap twice. I am sure they do this so the staff doesn’t have to walk to the back half of the bar to pour a beer, but there are so many other great beers out there that could replace that handle with, something they should think about. This brings me to the Bad and Good Section of my write up.
The Bad:
There was nothing really bad about my experience there, but I do have a few suggestions. First, turn down the beer coolers a little bit. I had three different draft beers (Stella, Sierra Nevada and a Blvd Pale Ale) all were semi cold when I got it, but by the third or fourth slip all were warm! The second was the wait I had in between my first two beers. I went there last Wednesday night around 7:00pm and beside me, there were five other people at the bar and then a party in the back (which I am pretty sure was an office X-Mass Party of around ten people). Whenever I go into a location for the first time I like to see if the wait staff or bartenders pay attention to the level my beer is at, as I think it is their responsibility to make sure that a beer drinker’s glass never goes empty! Now I am completely understanding in the situation of being slammed, but this was not it. Which finally brings me to my point; I had finished my first beer at 7:22pm and was not even approached about another until 7:30pm. I know that eight minutes isn’t an hour, but in the beer drinkers mind that in an eternity.
Now for the Good:
I wanted to find out how the temperature on their bottled beer was, so I topped off my draft beers with two Coor’s Light Bottles. Now these were ice cold! The Lift definitely is a place to go if you want one of the coldest bottled beers in the Metro. Besides the relaxing indoor atmosphere, they also had an amazing patio area, unfortunately the night was a cold miserable one and I was not able to enjoy it, but I do look forward to going there this summer for a place to relax. I was also happy because they have a Foosball Table and Golden Tee. And for those of you who are like me that don’t carry cash, The Lift also has an ATM available. Overall I had a very good experience; I only had to wait the one time for my beer, because after that first one the bartender with the great tattoos never let my beer mug go empty again.
So on the Local Buzz Scale of 0-6, HereForBeer.Com gives The Lift a 4 ½, check out HereForBeer.Com to find out more details on our Beer Scale and if you have a place that you think we should go and check out let me know! Otherwise I am sure I will run into at The Lift sooner or later.
